Bomb Threats At Schools And Business All Over The U. S., Criminals Demand Bitcoin As Ransom As Police Affirms Threats Are Not Credible

A series of bomb threats has shocked the United States and the crypto community today. Many bomb threats for places like schools and businesses all over the U. S. have made several places be evacuated today.

Emails went out today affirming that many schools and businesses across the whole country would be bombed unless a ransom was paid with Bitcoin. One of these places was the University of Washington, which sent an alert affirming that the emails are very likely spam and that the threats were not credible.

The police swept many of the places to find bombs, but it looks like no bombs were found out. The FBI has sent a report affirming that the email was not a credible threat, too, something that it was decided after monitoring the situation for a while and contacting the police enforcement.

According to reports from the police, it looks like the emails are just spam and not something that people should be too concerned about. The emails were likely sent out by bots, not real criminals.

Several area businesses are receiving what appears to be a robo-email saying there is a bomb threat to their business unless they pay money in Bitcoins. We have found no credible evidence any of these emails are authentic. See CRPD Facebook for more details. #Scam

The police from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which also received bomb threats, has also affirmed that no credible evidence was found out and that many counties of the region received the email. The police told businessmen that they should look for strange packages on their businesses and that, if they found something suspicious, they should inform the authorities. No one has found anything so far.

The Email

The emails that people received affirmed that an explosive device was planted “where your business is conducted” and that it is small and hard to find out. If any cops were called, the bomb would explode. The ransom was $20,000 USD to be paid in Bitcoin. People should pay until the end of the day or the devices would be detonated.

The Bitcoin-spam-scammers have moved on from fake blackmail threats to fake bomb threats. So far no-one's paid anything to the address, and I suspect it'll stay that way. pic.twitter.com/N5MOdmu8Jm

Here is what it says:

Subject: Do not waste your time

Hello. My man hid an explosive device (Hexogen) in the building where your business is conducted. My mercenary assembled the explosive device according to my guide. It has small dimensions and it is covered up very carefully, it is impossible to damage the building structure by my bomb, but in the case of its detonation, there will be many victims.
My recruited person keeps the area under the control. If any unusual behavior cop is noticed he will power the bomb.

I can call off my man if you make a transfer. 20.000 dollars is the cost for your life and business. Pay it to me in BTC and I warrant that I will withdraw my man and the device won't detonate. But do not try to cheat- my guarantee will become valid only after 3 confirmations in blockchain network.

My payment details (Bitcoin address): (REMOVED)

You must solve problems with the transaction by the end of the workday if you are late with the money the device will detonate.

Nothing personal this is just a business, if you don’t transfer me the bitcoins and a bomb explodes, next time other companies will send me more money because this is not a one-time action.

For my safety, I will no longer log into this email. I check my address every forty min and if I receive the payment I will order my person to get away.

If the explosive device detonates and the authorities see this letter:
We are not terrorists and don't assume any liability for explosions in other places.”

Cryptocurrency scammers target schools, hospitals, government offices with bomb threats

A dangerous email scam appears to be targeting businesses, schools, hospitals, and government buildings across the US in an attempt to extort bitcoin (BTC) with a bomb threat. A spokesperson for the FBI provided TNW with the following statement: We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance.
