I love me a pair of audiophile-grade headphones as much as the next gearhead, but I’m also passionate about commute-friendly products that don’t cost the earth and can take a beating on the road.

That’s why I was excited to try iTeknic’s new BH002 headphones, which bring an over-the-ear design and active noise canceling (ANC) tech to the table for just $56. You might not have heard of this Shenzhen, China-based brand before, but you may know its sister labels, Ravpower, TaoTronics, HooToo, and Vava; they’re all under a hardware company called Sunvalleytek, and we’ve liked many of the products…

Marshall’s Kilburn II is a star performer among wireless speakers

You probably know of the Marshall brand of guitar amplifiers, which have been rocking clubs and arenas since the 60s. With the help of Sweden-based firm Zound Industries, the brand expanded to launch consumer products like headphones and wireless speakers a couple of years ago; its instantly recognizable moniker and stage-ready aesthetic have helped it gain a foothold in the saturated audio gear space.

10 reasons I’m still not switching to Bluetooth headphones

I’m lucky enough to be able to try out all the latest audio gear, so sometimes friends and family are surprised to see I’m not donning Bluetooth headphones. Why would someone who reviews tech for a living not be living the wireless life? While I certainly have access to more Bluetooth headphones than I need, more often than not, I’m reaching for my wired cans.

Focal Elegia Review: Neutral hi-fi headphones you can actually commute with

The Focal Elegia is not your typical high-end headphone. After the highly successful Utopia and Clear, the Elegia is Focal Audio’s first contribution into the high-end closed market. Closed-back headphones have traditionally been something of a rarity in the high-end market, simply because physics makes it harder to reduce resonances and distortion on closed headphones, and limits the sense of space compared to open-back cans.

Meze 99 Neo Review: These gorgeous headphones are perfect for the budding audiophile

A few years ago, a small Romanian headphone company called Meze Audio took audio communities by storm with a gorgeous pair of $309 headphones, the 99 Classics. Here was a headphone clad in wood and aluminum that didn’t make any claims or revolutionary technology, artist collaborations, or gimmicky features – just great design and sound.

Google’s USB-C Pixel Buds are kind of a steal at $30

I’ll be honest with you. When I reviewed the Pixel 3, I didn’t bother to give the included USB-C Pixel Buds – available separately for $30 – a fair shot. Just another cheap pair of plastic EarPod lookalikes, right? The first time I really listened to them happened to be right after spending an hour testing to the $4,000 Focal Utopia – some of the best headphones in the world – out of my $600 desktop amp.

Review: Monoprice’s M565 is a $200 gateway to planar magnetic headphones

Dissect a random pair of headphones and there’s a good chance you’ll see something like this: a cone-shaped diaphragm speaker placed in front of a metal coil magnet. This basic design has been the foundation for most speakers and headphones for roughly a century; you’ll find it in everything from everything to the cheapest earbuds to the most expensive hi-fi setup.

I found a great pair of noise-canceling headphones under $50 — your ears will thank me

The older I get, the more I appreciate noise-canceling (NC) headphones and earphones. And the more I use them, the more I wonder why I hadn’t hopped on this tech earlier. Being able to go into quiet mode at the flip of a switch feels like a superpower, and comes in handy for everyone from students cramming for finals to old fogies like me trying to catch a nap on a plane.
