Klaytn, a South Korean service-centric blockchain platform, suffered a brief issue with unstable communication among consensus nodes on Sunday that led to block generation being halted.

Klaytn is a blockchain project that belongs to Kakao, the South Korean social messaging giant that has also expanded into gaming, mobile banking, and other services. The blockchain falls under the umbrella of the Ground X subsidiary, which is part of the Kakao family. This blockchain project is mostly aimed at large-scale enterprise usage in South Korea.

Klaytn reported the concern with block generation on Sunday through their Twitter account when it became obvious to the community that there was some sort of issue plaguing the network.

However, the issue lasted only around three hours as the mainnet resumed normal activity once it was discovered that there was unstable communication among the consensus nodes. There was no explanation as to what caused the issue, but the platform reported that it would be investigating the incident further.

Klaytn mainnet issue reported this morning has been resolved, and the block generation is resumed. The problem was caused due to unstable communication among Consensus Nodes, and we'll do our best to prevent any network-related issue from happening again. https://t.co/Xi3UqK3F1F

New Klaytn Version to Blame?

While there has been no indication as to what caused the network outage, there was a new version released on March 27 — v1.4.0. This new iteration brought with it storage trie optimization, adjustment of state trie cache parameters to boost performance, as well as Keystore v4 optimization.

As part of the update, Klaytn did note that the network would be fully available, but users might experience instability during the update.

Big Backing in South Korea

Klaytn has received a great deal of backing and support in South Korea, especially with its ties to Samsung, the country’s biggest electronics corporation. The blockchain project being developed under Kakao also allows the project to go after the prestigious enterprise blockchain market.

Samsung went as far as to launch a blockchain-enabled Klaytn smartphone, in September of last year. This smartphone is essentially a Galaxy S10 that comes with an inbuilt cryptocurrency wallet, decentralized apps, and free KLAY tokens.

Klaytn, much like TRON, which also finds a home on the Samsung Blockchain Keystore, has been pushing for dApp development on its mainnet.
