For more than a decade, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) has, for one reason or another, stood apart from the rest of the blockchain industry. Built in 2012, long before the rise of modern DeFi, it embraced a minimalist design of fast settlement, deterministic consensus, and no economic incentives for validators.
Ripple’s newest funding round landed with unusual force for a company long defined by court battles and contested narratives. On Nov. 5, the firm announced a $500 million strategic investment at a $40 billion valuation, backed by funds associated with Citadel Securities, Fortress Investment Group, and Brevan Howard.
For nearly a decade, XRP has been the underdog of the digital-asset world, overshadowed by Bitcoin’s narrative dominance, Ethereum’s developer gravity, and Solana’s speed headlines. Yet while most of the market debated ETFs and exchange listings, XRP’s core network, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), kept quietly evolving in the background.
For nearly five years, XRP was the crypto token that couldn’t shake its courtroom shadow. This resulted in its price stagnating, exchanges delisting it, and institutional desks quietly stepping away as the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) pursued Ripple Labs over allegations of unregistered securities sales.
Loyalty points are worth billions, but most never leave the accounts they’re earned in. Webus International, an XRP-focused treasury company, wants to change that. Last week, the Nasdaq-listed firm announced plans for a tokenized travel-reward exchange powered by the XRP stablecoin system.
Ripple CTO says XRPL’s maturity, low fees, and flexibility make it ideal for future global finance. XRPL offers a permissionless design with optional regulated features for broad financial use cases.
The Dubai Land Department (DLD) has selected XRP Ledger (XRPL) to power its landmark real estate tokenization initiative.
