New TxTenna Mobile App by goTenna and Samourai Wallet Allows Offline Bitcoin Transactions

2018-10-9 19:58

The world of cryptocurrencies has had one big problem in adoption arising from the connectivity issues on the internet. The off chain transaction system has taken up a rise in overall development as more blockchain platforms adopt the idea of sending cryptocurrencies without the need for an internet connection over data or Wi-Fi. One of the most prominent blockchain companies, goTenna, is a Brooklyn-based company that launched the TxTenna, a mobile app that allows users to send Bitcoin (BTC) without an internet connection

Through a partnership with Samourai Wallet, goTenna will focus on providing its users with as consumer-grade mesh networking devices that will allow users of the platform to send the BTC from one point to another without the need for an internet service provider (ISP) or a cell tower. Samourai Wallet is also a mobile based app that differs from the TxTenna Wallet as it is private and allows online transactions only.

Doing away with the online transaction systems of Bitcoin offers a greater opportunity for adoption of crypto in general as users in network starved areas will still be able to send and receive BTCs. According to the dApps engineer at goTenna, Rich Myers the mesh network will make the transactions more solid against hacks as well as improving the security systems associated with the transaction.

The TxTenna Mesh Networking Devices

The whole purpose for goTenna to move towards offering internet connection-free transactions on their mesh network conduces a positive arena for all people across the globe, even those without an internet connection. Secondly, the lack of internet connectivity poses a great disadvantage to crypto adoption with issues such as natural disasters causing connectivity problems.

With the TxTenna app users will be able to navigate internet connectivity hurdles by syncing their smartphones with a goTenna mesh device, then toggle the settings to send and receive BTC. This is made possible through the mesh networking devices.

“The reality is that local carriers or ISPs can associate subscribers with their transactions or censor Bitcoin transactions altogether. TxTenna provides an answer to these problems by decentralizing the critical transport layer, will enable truly decentralized bitcoin transactions,” said goTenna CEO Daniela Perdomo.

Further speaking on the mobile app, Perdomo confirmed that they [goTenna Company] chose the Samourai Wallet developers to create their platform. The offline wallet will be created on goTenna’s software development kit (SDK) through the MuleTools initiative. This placed Samourai Wallet as the top contender to create the TxTenna dApp.

“Late last year we began talking with the team at Samourai Wallet about including goTenna in their MuleTools initiative. The Samourai Wallet team are leaders in building advanced mobile bitcoin wallets. Inspired by Blockstream’s satellite, their open-source MuleTools initiative encourages more alternative transaction broadcast methods.”

Users will need to download the TxTenna app and the Samourai Wallet. Once downloaded, pair the two to a goTenna mesh network for internet-free connectivity. The connection will enable these users to send Bitcoin without a connection to any BTC address in the world.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt believes that in next 10-15 years, the internet will split into two with one part will be led by China and other by the US. I grew up in a house that shared one phone charger — and survived

Let me set the scene for you. It’s 2010, my family and I have one shared PC that takes thirty minutes to load the login page, the internet makes a weird sound when it’s switched on, all four of us in the house have a flip phone — and we share one phone charger… My parents were ahead of the curve when it came to digital paranoia and found a ‘fun’ solution to raising kids in a new and terrifying digital world — control their access to electricity.
