Ledger Decoded 2020: TL;DR

2020-12-15 12:00

Ledger’s end of year event, Ledger Decoded 2020, took place on December 3rd. This annual event has Ledger’s leadership discuss the year in retrospect, give a glimpse into the year to come and discuss the company’s vision with the community.

Good and bad combined, 2020 has been quite a ride for the crypto community and especially for us here at Ledger. And so, we decided that it was the right time of the year to reflect on the past, and share with you our vision and aspirations of the future.

First things first

As you probably know, Ledger was a victim of a data breach during the summer. Consequently, a significant amount of our user’s data was leaked. We can assure you that everyone here at Ledger, is putting in the work every single day to resolve the situation and make sure that this never happens again. Below are some of the measures that have been taken:

We started by effectively patching the breach, warned all of our affected users via email and also used our website and social media to notify the community. A task force is working around the clock to take down the different scams. An official complaint was filed and investigations are currently on-going. We Doubled down on educational content to make sure that the community was well aware of the risks and knew which rules of thumb to follow. The customer success team is online 24/7 and doing their best to answer every complaint. Our data policy has been reviewed.

But most importantly, your funds are safe, so we urge you, our community, to never share your seed phrase with anyone and to report phishing attacks to Google Safebrowsing #Stopthescammers

Moreover, to substantiate our engagement towards your safety and privacy, we hired Matt Johnson, a world class CISO (Chief Information Security Officer). Matt is a former Australian police officer, with proven experience in physical and cybersecurity, holding positions such as Group Chief Security Officer at Ingenico and Director of Cybersecurity at Visa.

Looking back  Ledger Live

In 2020, Ledger live has been our main focus. We strived to provide you with the most secure, yet user-friendly and seamless experience. And so, we transformed the application into The One-stop Shop for your Crypto. One app to buy, sell, swap, stake, lend and manage 27 coins & more than 1500 tokens directly from your smartphone or computer.

Bitcoin

In addition, you’ve asked for specific Bitcoin functionalities, and we listened, coin control is now available and by the end of the year you will have the ability to run your own Bitcoin full node on desktop via Ledger live.

Ethereum

As for Ethereans, Ledger Nano X now supports ETH 2.0 deposit contract validation. Concerning Defi, by the end of the year, with our partner Wallet Connect, we will give you the option to sign a transaction on a Dapp directly with your Nano in Ledger Live. Therefore, providing you with the best experience to manage your Dapps, without compromising security.

And finally some results, in 2020, we have sold over 2 million devices. Ledger live has more than 1,2 million active users. And overall, our customer satisfaction scores are impressive. So, we wanted to take a moment and thank you for your support. It’s been a tumultuous year but you stood by us. Please keep sharing your feedback. We might not be able to answer all the time but we can assure you that we read everything.

Looking ahead Integration

Everyday we get thousands of demands concerning coin integration. And we listen. In 2021,  many third party foundations will be able to develop the support of their currency and bring their coins to Ledger live for their communities; ETH 2.0, DOT, ADA, EGLD, BNB, HBAR, CELO, FLOW, VET, ZIL, are on the list.

UX

The Ledger Live experience is undoubtedly one of the most important 2021 pillars. We will be working on:

New Ledger Live onboarding flow to simplify the process. Translation to 5 languages: Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic.Inclusion of market overview, price history and asset news.Ledger cloud to sync your account with various devices. Address book to simplify transactions.Complete portfolio visibility of secured assets, including assets which are stored on exchanges.  Usage

In 2021, ETH 2.0 staking will be available directly on Ledger Live. We will integrate decentralized swaps and include increasingly more lending features.

Moreover, we will produce a Ledger debit card for you to easily and safely spend your crypto worldwide.

Last but not least, to achieve all of this, we hired a new CXO, Ian Rogers, who is the former VP of Yahoo!, CEO of Beats Music, Director of Apple Music and CDO of LVMH. In other words, a User Experience and Marketing rockstar if you will.

See you next year

We take this opportunity to wish you a holiday season filled with health, joy and happiness!

2021 is going to be a big year for all of us, same time next year we will be presenting you with a secret project that we are currently developing.

Enjoy your holidays and take care!
