Etherum’s Geth Software Releases Upgrade

Go-ethereum, also known as Geth, is one of the most used Ethereum based clients in the worlds. Now, it has released the v1.8.20 update today, December 12. With the upgrade, there was also an activation code for Constantinople, the next Ethereum hard fork update which will bring original and additional enhancements for the Ethereum network.

Together with Parity, Go-ethereum (Geth) is one of the most important software to run the ETH network. The new update sets up the Constantinople hard fork on block 7,080,000. So, this could be considered part of the move to send Constantinople ahead.

The specific block in which the hard fork update would be implemented was discussed earlier in December and it was defined that the best idea would be to do this, which also sets up the stage for the release of the product.

About Constantinople

Constantinople will go live between January 14 and 18, according to the plans of the devs. If the users adopt the new code, the launch will run smoothly. They will probably do, however, so there are not a lot of chances of something like the creation of Ethereum Classic happening again.

Initially, Constantinople would be launched in November 2018. Unfortunately, many issues appeared during testing and the developers needed two additional weeks to get rid of the bugs to ensure a smooth launch of the network.

If all the promises are true, Constantinople will have many design changes that will change how the Ethereum Network works. It will also be responsible for reducing the block rewards from 3 to 2 ETH and push ahead the difficulty bomb, a mechanism that would make it harder to mine blocks, by another 18 months.

Constantinople will mark the end of the current version of the Ethereum network, Metropolis. It is going to be the backbone of the next phases of Ethereum’s development: Ethereum 1x and Etehreum 2.0.
