Ethereum’s Developer Update: Constantinople Hard Fork Delayed Until 2019 Due to Bugs

2018-10-20 18:19

Ethereum upgrade to Constantinople will not be this year. The hard fork is being delayed until 2019. This information has been released by developers in a meeting on Friday.

The improvement was planned to be launched in November 2018 rather than in 2019. However, developers decided to change the launching date for the hard fork since they found several bugs that could not be immediately solved. The bugs were found during a network test.

Apparently, the new date will be between January and February since developers agreed on moving ahead to launch Constantinople the next year.

Afri Schoeden, commented on the matter:

“I keep getting the feeling that we’re trying to rush this and I would second that we should breathe and see what happens. “

Constantinople would have important changes for the Bitcoin network. However, one of the most important things to mention about it is that it will be reducing the amount of Ether (ETH) created with each block.

Since this hard fork has been delayed, it could have implications for other changes that were going to be implemented on the network. Another proposal that is known as “ProgPow” aims at shorting Ethereum’s resistance to specialized mining hardware.

Martin Holste Swende, security lead at the Ethereum Foundation, said that he would be pushing to include ProgPow into Constantinople. ProgPow was also discussed by the community on several occasions and developers agreed to include it in a new hard fork short after Constantinople.

Ethereum is one of the most important blockchain networks in the market and has one of the largest developer communities in the crypto space. At the moment of writing, Ethereum is the second most important virtual currency with a market capitalization of $20.97 billion dollars. Each token can be purchased for over $205 dollars.
