Arket is the subsidiary of H&M, but it has been progressively working on new products of its own. Most recently, TheNextWeb reported on a “new product integration” that they are using blockchain technology to establish, thanks to the help of developer VeChain.

A spokesperson from Arket emailed TheNextWeb directly, detailing the “minor blockchain implementation” that they have been testing to track data about their products with complete security. Though the email includes certain information about the trial, there were no details about how broad the solution is being tried out, or even in the locations that they are starting with.

“Arket has done a small Proof of Concept (POC) through a pilot testing with VeChain to use blockchain technology to secure product data traceability in the value chain. The test was made on a wool beanie from the autumn 2018 collection,”

the spokesperson wrote to TheNextWeb.

Still, the collaboration between Arket and VeChain has been rumored for weeks on social media websites like Reddit and Twitter. In fact, on both websites, users started posting videos of themselves using their smartphones to test out the blockchain technology from VeChain. Many of the videos were sourced from users in London.

With the program, the user simply scans a product from Arket with a program that is presently dubbed VeChain Pro, though there is no information about the permanent name right now. Once the app uploads the product’s page, users are privy to other information as well.

In a statement to TheNextWeb, Arket added, “The test is ongoing and has not yet been evaluated.”
