Polkadot (DOT/USD) has announced that its sister chain network Kusama, is close to launching parachains on its network. The project rolled out its Rococo testnet in August, and since then, it has been under development. But the Polkadot and Kusama teams say they have given the project’s proper launch a go.
Kusama and Polkadot creator Gavin Wood stated in a blog post that Polkadot was entering its fourth and final stage. According to him, the stage involves the deployment of parachains to the Kusama network.
Wood also stated that the Polkadot version 0.9 upgrade has been released by the development arms of the network, Parity Technologies.
Test on project’s reliability is ongoingThe team behind the Polkadot network said in the next two months they will be testing Kusama’s performance, re-factoring, and reliability, which will be the next phase they want to improve on the Polkadot platform.
Kusama was launched as a network that prepares the development and deployments on the Polkadot network.
As an ‘unrefined version of Polkadot, it serves as a testing ground, which allows developers to test out governance, and build and deploy parachains.
The relationship between these two networks can be compared to the relationships shared between the Bitcoin and Litecoin networks. Like in Litecoin, most improvement proposals are usually activated in Kusama before they are finally deployed to Polkadot in real-time.
Deployment of shell parachainAccording to the announcement, the Polkadot developers are looking to deploy a shell parachain in the next step for Kusama. While it lacks the stamping feature, it can still produce blocks, according to Wood.
The shell will be beneficial for upgradability purposes, although this will depend on the instructions from the relay Chain.
With this upgrade, it will be possible to enable the transfer of governance tokens KSM or DOT. The network will also be able to store both fungible and non-fungible tokens.
