Ultimo Digital Technologies (UDT) To Use Blockchain For Animal Welfare Tracking via Microchip

2018-7-31 20:18

A new Startup company, Ultimo Digital Technologies (UDT), based out of a former Australian Commonwealth Research Institute is geared as a multitasking microchip designed specifically for animal welfare. The chip, is described as incorruptible and, was designed in Sydney’s University of Technology with the founder, John Baird and (paid) students.

They believe this chip could change the future of animal welfare. The chip after ‘installed’ can track information like temperature, location and radiation levels. We know the more common use of Blockchain is cryptocurrency exchange however, there is a plethora of other benefits that this Australian Startup intends to tap into.

They also believe that especially in the United Kingdom, farms and their animals are falling in standards and this, will be an excellent way to uphold the standard to acceptable and greater than average expectations.

Currently on the timeline, is a trip to China in October where the Startup company intends to track livestock on the actual farms themselves. In doing so, they will be able to determine what stressors certain animals deal with, and document behavior to allow for the tracking device and its intelligence to be that much further advanced.

To date, the fish markets in Sidney have also begun to explore Blockchain technology; age, water temperature and the freshness. The ultimate goal is to use this information for good – for animals, and consumers.
