Big, greedy Ethereum whales account for 33 percent of cryptocurrency’s supply

Ethereum whales account for just 7 percent of transaction activity in the market – but they control a third of the cryptocurrency’s entire circulating supply. Berkeley Professor Questions Stablecoin Viability in Unflattering Op-Ed

University of Berkeley Professor Barry Eichengreen has taken a swipe at the viability of stablecoins in an op-ed published on Project Syndicate. The critique, entitled “The Stable-Coin Myth,” argues stablecoins are not automatically "viable" just because they are pegged to an asset, though Eichengreen does believe they have an advantage over "conventional cryptocurrencies" such as bitcoin which he says "is highly unstable" and "unattractive as units of account.

Governance, Part 2: Plutocracy Is Still Bad

Coin holder voting, both for governance of technical features, and for more extensive use cases like deciding who runs validator nodes and who receives money from development bounty funds, is unfortunately continuing to be popular, and so it seems worthwhile for me to write another post explaining why I (and Vlad Zamfir and others) do not consider it wise for Ethereum (or really, any base-layer blockchain) to start adopting these kinds of mechanisms in a tightly coupled form in any significant way.
