A team of scientists recently conducted a first-of-its-kind experiment to study the effects of space radiation on a living brain. And the results don’t bode well for NASA‘s planned mission to Mars.

The research was conducted by lead author Charles Limoli and scientists from University of California, Irvine, Stanford University, Colorado State University, and the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine. It involved using a new neutron irradiation facility to expose laboratory mice to the same levels of radiation they’d experience in space. According to the team’s paper: We have uncovered that realistic, low dose rate exposures produce serious neurocognitive complications…

Game developers help NASA imagine what life in space will look like

NASA spent much of the 20th century commissioning painters and illustrators to imagine the future of space exploration.  When Jeff Norris, the head of Mission Operations Innovation at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), wanted a way to inspire a new generation of potential engineers, scientists, and astronauts, he turned to a modern alternative to those artists: a games developer.

NASA Scolds Elon Musk’s SpaceX Over ‘Serious Challenges’ Facing Launch Schedules

Nasa is pressuring SpaceX and its embattled CEO Elon Musk to fix rocket design and safety issues that could keep the U. S space program grounded firmly on Earth. The government space agency took SpaceX to task in its 2018 annual report released this month, noting four “key risks” to the rocket and capsule system designed by Musk and his staff, according to Reuters.

Here’s why NASA is sending worms to space

Space launches are some of the most spectacular and nerve wracking events you can witness. And when you are actually involved in one, you realize just how much can go wrong. We are currently in Florida, nervously counting down the hours until we launch our experiment, sending thousands of microscopic worms to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

NASA wants to send humans to Venus – here’s why that’s a brilliant idea

Popular science fiction of the early 20th century depicted Venus as some kind of wonderland of pleasantly warm temperatures, forests, swamps and even dinosaurs. In 1950, the Hayden Planetarium at the American Natural History Museum were soliciting reservations for the first space tourism mission, well before the modern era of Blue Origins, SpaceX and Virgin Galactic.
