Facebook and Google have truly put a damper on the way that cryptocurrency companies are able to advertise to consumers, especially considering the millions of people on social media. This ban has made it crucial for companies to become more creative in their efforts to publicize their ICOs and their exchanges. The SATOS cryptocurrency exchange is taking their advertisements to a new place – a bus.

TheNextWeb reported on this new advertising effort, speaking with marketing manager Stijn Jager to learn more. Jager said,

“The idea of out-of-house marketing first came to us when most advertising platforms turned their back on cryptocurrencies. Google and Facebook did not allow us to advertise anymore. Which used to be our way (extremely targeted) of communicating with our target audience.”

Jager went on, discussing how their target audience is more expansive than originally anticipated. He explained, saying, “When Bitcoin became the talk at any office, everyone – literally everyone – was our target audience.” That is when it became apparent to the manager that they needed to have more resources than just Google.

The first bus advertisement from SATOS came in July, and the public had no option but to acknowledge the exchange. They inadvertently still ended up on Twitter and Reddit anyway, as users on the platforms began to post images and comments about the “Amsterdam Bitcoin bus” on their accounts.

In Jager’s interview with Hard Fork, he seemed proud of their unique ability to have this level of originality. He said, “Not only the bus is unique, but the (Dutch) copy has inside jokes.” When discussing the cost of setting up this advertisement, he commented that it was “more cost-efficient than a tram,” instead of disclosing exactly how much was used. The Hard Fork pursued further with the company that sold the advertising space, discovering that the cost was €2,500 ($2,847) per week.
