The blockchain technology is bringing marvelous changes to technology and, while some of them are still years away from being fully implemented, there are some very interesting experiments being made right now. If you look at Russia right now, you can definitely see a good example of this.

A Russian independent electoral watchdog, the nonprofit Association of Independent Public Observers, also known as National Public Monitoring (NOM), has been recently making trials with a new system based on the blockchain technology that can be used for electronic voting systems, the local media reported.

The nonprofit organization has recently announced the pilot of the program during a press conference in Moscow. The federal coordinator of NOM, Roman Kolomystev, told the local media that, as part of the progress of the organization, they would soon launch a pilot electronic voting system that would be built using the top blockchain technology available.

This announcement was made on the Russian Congress of Public Observers that was held by NOM in a partnership with the Russian Fund For Free Elections and the Association of Lawyers of Russia. It was also reported that the event, which had a public of around 300 people, had partners like People’s Observer, Public Association Group 32 and Corps for Clean Elections.

While the pilot was announced at the conference, there was not a lot of information about how it will actually work as soon as it is done. We know that the blockchain uses a public distributed ledger that stored the information forever and has anonymity, so it will probably be used to record votes in a way that they cannot be tampered with.The specifics of how this system will work, however, was not yet divulged.

Russia has been involved in internal discussions about cryptocurrencies and the blockchain for quite some time. The legislation has been discussed since January. At the time of this report, the Russian government was still undecided on how to formally approve the blockchain and cryptocurrencies on the law.

Near Russia, Ukraine is also working with the blockchain technology to provide experiments that can be used in voting. It was reported by the international media that the country was using the NEM network to apply blockchain technology to electoral voting issues.

The United States are also moving forward with this kind of technology. Recently, it was announced that the residents of West Virginia will be able to use a blockchain app to vote for the upcoming election in November. The platform, Voatz, will also be used to members of the armed forces serving overseas.
