On July 11, 2018, Reflective Venture Partners (RVP) announced a partnership with the Harvard Undergraduate Blockchain Group (HUBG) to create fundamental educational materials and applications for the cryptocurrency and blockchain technology sector.

The strategic partnership is a big win for both parties as it helps Harvard undergraduate members improve their understanding of blockchain technology, while providing new opportunities for RVP to incubate, coach, and build the next generation of blockchain innovation.

According to the press release, the goal of the partnership is to help interested Harvard students learn blockchain and cryptocurrency fundamentals in a curriculum-based environment. HUBG will also engage with organizations within the blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors and open-source communities to apply the information and seek opportunities where present.

“In the blockchain space, there is just too much hype and speculation,” said Arkam Javed, the co-founder and co-VP of HUBG.

”We want to bring an academic perspective to educate students and dig deeper.”

The HUBG and RVP partnership will not only provide the Harvard members with educational resources and industry experience, but it will also grant them direct access to RChain.

RChain is a third generation blockchain platform that tackles blockchain problems from a more academic perspective. Javed noted that RChain’s approach is much needed in the industry, stating:“The more analysis that’s available from an academic perspective, the more focus that’s put on technical fundamentals.”

Shahan Khoshafian, the Senior Associate at RVP, similarly agreed. He mentioned that RVP saw a great opportunity to partner with Harvard University because they wanted to focus on the academics, the mathematics, and science behind blockchain technology than the buzz that is happening today. Khoshafian said:

“From an educational perspective, RChain’s unique composition is suited quite well for higher education curriculum.”

In the long run, HUBG has several key goals which include the creation of a student-managed cryptocurrency investment fund and a peer-reviewed research journal.

They would also like to provide their members the opportunity to be involved with in-progress blockchain projects, build strong partnerships and relationships with up-and-coming companies in the blockchain sector, and identify effective real-life use cases of blockchain technology. “There are a lot of synergies and potentials to be created,” said Javed. “Students that work, learn, and grow with HUBG will be best suited for this new space that’s being created.”

Regarding the RChain platform, HUBG has expressed great interest to eventually work with the RChain tech team to produce demos of Rholang and the RChain virtual machine. RVP is also very excited to work together with HUBG. “These academic partnerships highlight the talent in universities across the board and this exposure to blockchain is going to be critical to its future success of becoming more widely adopted,” said Khoshafian.

“The bigger picture is connecting great talent with great technology, and then giving everybody access to information we can all use together.”
