Tube8, a subsidiary of Pornhub, has announced plans to begin rewarding adult entertainment aficionados with digital currency as part of a new partnership with Vice Industry Token.

According to Hard Fork, Tube8 revealed that it had partnered with Vice Industry Token (VIT) to make its entire platform tokenized. The partnership will enable Tube8 users to earn VIT tokens when they stream or interact with Tube8 videos. The move by the adult company will make it the first major adult platform to adopt token-based rewards. It will also be a first to pay users for their activities on the website. The token implementation is expected to take place by the end of 2018.

The adult entertainment industry has a reputation for being an early adopter of technology. Tube8’s 150 million visits monthly have the potential to genuinely push cryptocurrency adoption to the fore.

Tube8 spokesperson Robin Turner, commenting on the partnership with VIT, said:

“…with the introduction of VIT, we are marking a paradigm shift in how people consume adult entertainment…VIT offers Tube8 a way to reward their viewers by monetizing content through the VIT protocol. Whereas before users would log in, watch a few videos and leave, VIT incentivizes them to create an account and interact with the content to generate Vice Tokens.”

Tube8 did not disclose how its cryptocurrency rewards will be calculated, but the platform is likely to set reward limits. This will prevent users from manipulating the system to gain profits.

Rewarding users for pleasure gained is likely to arouse the interest of many across the globe. The potential success of the Tube8 cryptocurrency experiment could be much-needed proof that the token economy has a bright future.

Tube8 isn’t the only adult entertainment company embracing cryptocurrency or trying to introduce tokenized rewards. Playboy announced in March 2018 that it was developing an online wallet. It reached an agreement with Global Blockchain Technologies (GBT) to add VIT on its site. Early this week, things turned sour, as Playboy announced that it was suing the cryptocurrency platform for breach of contract.

The giant adult entertainment company, Pornhub, announced in June 2018 that it was going to expand its digital currency payment options to accept the cryptocurrency, Tron (TRX). Two months before, in April 2018, the company announced via its blog that it had accepted Verge (XVG) as payment.

The efficacy of the porn industry to usher in real cryptocurrency mass adoption cannot be overlooked. The flexibility and anonymity of digital currency has made it welcome in the porn industry. The adult entertainment industry might be the forward thrust the nascent technology seeks.
