The police force from New Zealand has recently emitted a report stating that it has been making important progress on the case of the local crypto exchange Cryptopia, which was hacked and lost over $16.1 million USD. The attack began on January 15 and it lasted two weeks, as the attackers took over the Ethereum wallets of the company.

According to the police reports, there are efforts being made internationally in order to track the funds. According to the detective inspector Greg Murton, which is in charge of the investigation, the stolen crypto is being tracked, which is easy because of the nature of the technology.

He has affirmed that the team has made excellent progress so far and that the police is working together with the management of the crypto company in order to find the criminals and the stolen money.

However, the investigation will take a lot of time, still, because the crypto technology is very complex and the team will have to face this complexity in order to get the money back. However, investigations at the headquarters of the company will be finished next week.

At the moment, it looks like the hackers are trying to sell the assets in order to protect themselves from being caught. They were reported to have used Binance so far in order to attempt to sell the tokens on the platform.

One of the biggest doubts that people have so far is whether the criminals will actually be arrested or not because the nature of the hack means that the chances of this happening are very slim at the moment. We will have to wait in order to find out what has happened to the money, so follow our blog for more information.
