New Crypto Startup Celo Recruits Help from Former Ripple Counsel Brynly Llyr

Even though Brynly Llyr has left Ripple behind a few days ago, she is not completely done with cryptocurrency. Recently, she has agreed to a similar position as the general counsel within Celo, which is a startup that plans to work with crypto payments. According to a report, she will be handling “all aspects of legal strategy at Celo. These responsibilities will involve the daily operations, policies, regulations, partnerships with other companies, and general intellectual property.

Much of the reason for adding Llyr is to help with their mission to make it easier for users to apply their cryptocurrencies while making payments. As they take on this option, there will also be a new app in the works that handles payments and money transfers between parties, which will help the industry migrate to other use cases as well.

In a statement, Llyr said,

“There are 1.7 billion people around the world that don't have access to formal financial services.” She also noted, “Celo is at the forefront of harnessing the blockchain and cryptocurrencies to empower them … I'm honored to join the incredibly talented team at Celo and look forward to bringing about positive change for financial inclusion to those who need it most.”

The chief executive with Celo, Rene Reinsberg released a statement to welcome the new general counsel. She said,

“She has great experience in virtual currency, fintech and the blockchain.”
