The trustee of the cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox wants to allow victims that didn’t submit their claims on time, to file their requests after the deadline. Mt. Gox was one of the largest Bitcoin exchanges back in 2013. However, it experienced an attack that affected the whole market.

After years struggling to file a claim for refund, individuals affected by the hack were able to request their refunds. Nevertheless, in a recent press release, the trustee in the Mt. Gox case mentioned that if there are filings that are delayed, some claims filed after the deadline may be acceptable. The court will be determining whether the rehabilitation claims filed after the deadline are accepted or not.

In the past, the trustee tried to extend the deadline until December 26. The intention was to allow all the individuals affected to have their money back.

The online tool that has been created to submit the claims will be accessible for submitting the latest claims.

This civil rehabilitation has been used in order to offer a more flexible form of bankruptcy. The intention is not to resuscitate the Mt. Gox exchange. The trustee is also able to create the plans it considers convenient rather than following rigid steps under the bankruptcy proceedings.

Back in 2014, around 850,000 were stolen in a hack. The Japanese platform mentioned that they’ve lost 750,000 from customers and 100,000 from their reserves. However, they’ve found 200,000 sometime later.

Affected users would be receiving the funds in Japanese yen at the exchange rate of the bankruptcy date in April 2014.

A few days ago, the cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia was hacked losing around $2.4 million in Ethereum (ETH) and ERC-20 tokens. The investigation is currently undergoing.
