Mt. Gox is the horrible middle ground between decentralized blockchain and Amazon web services, says Peter McCormack

2019-5-10 18:30

Peter McCormack is known in the cryptosphere for his interviews with popular proponents, and for his dialogues about the most controversial topics in the industry. This time, however, it was McCormack who was interviewed on Brock Pierce’s podcast. The podcast touched upon a number of issues, including the very touchy subject of Mt. Gox and Mark Karpeles, the former CEO of the doomed Japan-based Bitcoin exchange.

While Pierce supported the comeback of Mt. Gox, stating that the “coins were being stolen over years”, the controversial topic had resulted in some heated conversations between the duo. The latest podcast, dubbed “Part 2,” is a continuation of the duo’s previous dialogue on the subject. When asked about  McCormack’s thoughts on “the final season of the Mt. Gox Saga”, he said,

“The only thing that’s important is that the creditors get their money as quickly and efficiently as possible, and let the thing (Mt. Gox) die. Why the hell would anyone want to breathe life back into it?”

Although McCormack had a negative reaction to Mt. Gox’s rebirth, he shared a friendly opinion about Mt. Gox’s CEO, Mark Karpeles. McCormack told viewers that he visited Karpeles in Japan, stating,

“He got trapped in this situation and I don’t think he’s entirely at fault. I have a lot of sympathy for him.”

McCormack also alleged that Karpeles had “been through a lot” and “probably inherited an insolvent business”. The podcaster also stated that he had spoken to several creditors of the now-defunct exchange who, like himself, now had a lot of sympathy for Karpeles. With regard to the many who lost their cryptos, McCormack added,

“I think time has healed for a lot of people and they feel a lot of sympathy for him.”

The interview ended with McCormack saying, “Mt. Gox is the horrible middle ground between decentralized blockchain and Amazon web services”. He also requested Pierce to “step away from Mt. Gox”.
