Mozilla’s latest version of Firefox features enhanced tracking protection which providers more content blocking options to the users.

The upcoming browser version 67 could also block cryptocurrency miners by default, adding more protection to the users.

What Is Mozilla up To?

Mozilla is working on browser version 67 to enhance the safety of the users.

It will add more blocking options for the browser, which will fight against fingerprinters and crypto miners.

The work on these features has already started, but it will take some time before being brought to the Nightly builds of the browser.

As Firefox 67 is scheduled for a May 14 launch, the new features will be given to the public testers soon.

Handling Crypto Mining Problems

Mozilla became concerned with blocking crypto mining scripts in the browser in the middle of 2018, and this feature was expected to launch with the Firefox 63 browser.

However, it has since been delayed.

In an August 30 post, Mozilla’s vice president of product Nick Nguyen noted:

“Some trackers fingerprint users — a technique that allows them to identify users by their device properties invisibly, and which users are unable to control. Other sites have deployed crypto mining scripts that silently mine cryptocurrencies on the user’s device. Practices like these make the web a more hostile place to be. Future versions of Firefox will block these practices by default.”

Opera was the first browser to block crypto miners.

In early January 2018, the company introduced cryptocurrency block scripts for mobile devices.

This feature is activated by default with the ad blocking feature of the browser which provides added protection against cryptojacking.

Google also tried to restrict the infiltration of crypto miners by removing all extensions that could have powered such activities.

This visualization of Venmo’s public data is terrifying

PayPal’s peer-to-peer payment app, Venmo, is one of the modern world’s greatest conveniences. It’s a simple way to send people money without jumping through a bunch of hoops. But, what if you found out that every transaction you completed with the app was, by default, instantly uploaded to the internet for the entire world to see? You’d be upset right? Well, as it turns out, if you never changed the privacy settings in your Venmo account you’re sharing your transaction history with everyone.
