Kenyan restaurant Mount Kenya is a picturesque and charming place. Beyond the food and ambiance though, the restaurant has made an interesting move by incorporating cryptocurrency into its payment system.

The restaurant is located in the town of Nyeri, a rural place that is 150km from the country’s capital, Nairobi. The restaurant is one of the few in the country that embraces blockchain technology. Those who purchase at the restaurant can make payment with one of two cryptocurrencies – bitcoin or dash.

The business’s owners believes in the “big picture.” She stated,

“Since the world is becoming more global, my place is also becoming a global restaurant”

and that she attracts,

“different customers from different parts of the world, whichever coin they have. As long as it’s a viable coin, we accept it.”

Interestingly enough, and perhaps unsurprisingly the restaurant’s owner started trading cryptocurrency years ago and ultimately, her investment enabled her to purchase the two-story hotel that she calls Betty’s Place.

The hotel has an aesthetic appeal, with its bright mustard-colored walls and lovely windows. In addition to enjoying a stay and a good meal, the hotel also hosts classes where patrons can learn the rudiments of Bitcoin. There, individuals can participate in tutorial sessions concerning bitcoin.

As the owner has stated,

“I’ve set aside one day where I can teach my customers. Whoever asks about cryptocurrencies: How does it work? What is bitcoin? I train them.”

The restaurant and hotel are not the only facilities to adopt bitcoin and blockchain technology as part of their business. The country’s overall approach toward crypto and blockchain has improved, even though the central bank has warned its citizens against cryptocurrencies.

Further, the country’s Housing and Urban Development introduced a plan to incorporate the technology for the distribution of government housing units. With that may come efficient allocate houses that use a sophisticated ledger, which may lead to proper management techniques.
