Web3 on-ramp platform, Metamask, announced its newest version 8 platform is now live. The browser extension comes with a host of new privacy features “that no other browser wallet has offered before” and an upgraded UI/UX interface, a statement on Medium from the editor of Metamask, Dan Finlay reads.

Metamask is a browser plug-in available on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and privacy-enhanced Brave browser. The platform, once installed, allows the user to make transfers to any Ethereum (ETH) or ERC-20 standard token address.

Privacy is key

The new upgrade, MetaMask V8, privacy will be enhanced by allowing users authoritative access on what sites have access to once they connect to Metamask. The statement reads,

“When you connect to a website, you have the option to select one or more accounts to associate with that website or create a new account just for that site.”

Built for the decentralized web, the new privacy control upgrade will allow users to quickly switch between accounts preventing unauthorized access to users’ private information by websites.

The privacy upgrades also include an encryption tool that allows users to send encrypted messages and websites to decrypt the messages. These permissions will reflect the EIP-2255 permissions system that provides powerful privacy features. Dan Finlay wrote,

“For now, these decryption requests each require user confirmation, so it’s mostly ideal for decrypting infrequent, important messages, like emails.”

UI/UX and Security protocols enhanced

Every upgrade is consumer-focused and hence the latest release of a user-friendly UI/UX system suitable for both novice and expert users. The home tab includes the “Assets tab” that organizes and tracks users’ portfolios and transactions on the network.

The Metamask Version 8 also includes the Lava Moat tool to improve the security of Metamask, coded in JavaScript. The set of tools provided on Lava Moat will “confine every third-party dependency in a piece of JavaScript code at build time’. This will prevent any cyber attacks while building on Metamask at any given time.

Metamask ban on Google Play at the tail end of 2019, raised concerns on the overall survival of the browser wallet. In a turnaround earlier this year, the extension with over 200,000 active users was reinstated back on Google Play Store as calls for decentralized platforms grew stronger.
