Meta and online gaming platform Roblox have announced key developments in their respective artificial intelligence (AI) adoption curves. Meanwhile, as the global community embraces the technological leap, one of the major shifts is taking place in the investment space. AltSignals is tapping into AI to transform this sector.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Threads, released a statement on Tuesday stating that its implementing a new policy in relation to AI-generated images.

In particular, the tech giant will now label AI-generated images as such, with th “Imagined with AI” tag added to indicate to users that the images are generated using Meta’s AI feature. Nick Clegg, President, Global Affairs at Meta, said in a blog post that the company will add both visible and invisible markers to content generated with AI using its in-house feature.

The move comes ahead of the crucial November elections in the US, and Meta is collaborating with partners to create “common technical standards” that will apply to all AI content on its platforms. This will include images, audio and video.

To achieve more transparency, Meta is collaborating with Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Midjourney, OpenAI and Shutterstock. Images posted onto Facebook, Instagram and Threads from these platforms will also have metadata that shows they are AI-generated attached.

Meta’s announcement comes in a week where X blocked searches for Taylor Swift after a fake video of the singer-songwriter went viral.

Away from Meta’s concern over fake AI-generated images, online gaming platform Roblox is taking AI usefulness to the next level with an in-house large language model (LLM).

On Monday, the company announced a “unified translation model” – an AI-powered tool that offers real-time translation of conversations across 16 languages. With this, Roblox users can continue to speak in any of the 16 supported languages, and the communication will be in real-time despite the different language chat participants will use.

Roblox CEO David Baszucki said the company built the custom AI translator from scratch. “The caching and back-end logic, including safety and moderation, happens on our own hardware,” he noted in an X post.

Daniel Sturman, Chief Technology Officer at Roblox, said:

“Imagine discovering that your new Roblox friend, a person you’ve been chatting and joking with in a new experience, is actually in Korea — and has been typing in Korean the entire time, while you’ve been typing in English, without either of you noticing.”
