One of the largest fintech companies in Europe, Mercuryo, recently decided to help push cryptocurrency adoption in the UK by entering the country’s sports scene. To do this, the firm decided to become the first official crypto sponsor of the Welsh-based Swansea City.

The partnership came as a pleasant surprise for the crypto community. Through it, Mercuryo will connect the crypto space with the UK’s enthusiastic sports fans, thus providing them with an easy way to enter the crypto sector.

Mercuryo offers fiat-to-crypto payment gateway services to numerous corporate and consumer clients in countries throughout Europe. The company has two flagship products — a crypto wallet, and a widget. The company’s long-term goal is to use these products to make cryptos more accessible to users around the globe.

The firm’s founder and CBDO, Petr Kozyakov, said that this will be the firm’s first sponsorship deal with an internationally-renowned brand. As such, the move represents a crucial step for Mercuryo’s international recognition. He also added that Swansea is a brilliant club, and that the fintech firm is thrilled to have this opportunity to pursue their goals together.

Mercuryo was originally launched in 2018. Since then, it became one of the biggest crypto payment gateway providers on the continent. It currently serves more than 600,000 consumers, as well as 180 major crypto companies.

Some of its biggest clients from the crypto world include Binance, Trezor, Bitfinex, and others. However, in order to continue its expansion, Mercuryo wants to bring crypto to the untapped sectors, and its first step is the massive UK sports scene. With Swansea City AFC being one of the oldest Wales-based clubs, and holder of the second place in the English Football League Championship’s 2020-21 season, the club was a perfect partner.
