Selling cryptocurrencies to strangers might not be the best idea ever. A 24-year old man was killed after selling large amounts of Bitcoin for cash. The situation has been reported by local media a few days ago.

As per the local police, the man was killed in his apartment. There is not so much information, but the victim might have been a crypto trader. The police did not accept to talk with the local media and provide further information.

Lien Metlid, Head of Common Unit for Intelligence and Investigations in Oslo Police said that they believe that the attack is related to a Bitcoin trade.

“We are familiar with a tip about Bitcoin, but at this time we will not provide more information about the investigation,” Metlid commented. “We investigate widely in every way. Economic motives are one of the reasons to which we are open.”

One of his roommates said that the victim was planning to sell some of his Bitcoin holdings and purchase an apartment. Apparently, the attacker contacted the victim to make a p2p Bitcoin transaction handling cash to the victim for Bitcoin. However, the police could not find any cash in the house when they searched on it. Until now, they did not arrest anybody.

This shows that confidentiality is very important at the time of doing p2p transactions. Several individuals want to perform p2p transactions without a clear regulatory environment. Some users prefer to sell their virtual currencies in this way rather than on a regulated platform.

The strangers have to meet face to face in order to perform the transaction. Due to the fact that there are no banking relationships, these strangers need to make their agreement without legal protection.

We have heard several times about how attackers steal users’ funds and damage the sellers. For example, in Taiwan, two friends were attacked by a group of individuals that wanted to buy virtual currencies. Once the victim showed how many Bitcoin he had, the attackers stole the victim that was with a friend.

Privacy is very important and performing these kinds of transactions must be taken very seriously.
