Major crypto conferences across Asia are being put on hold because of the coronavirus

2020-2-6 09:30

The rapid spread of the widely feared Coronavirus has sent shockwaves across the global markets and has even led some crypto analysts to note that investors flocking to safe-haven assets as a result of the virus’s spread has bolstered Bitcoin.

One other side effect of the Coronavirus’s spread has been the cancellations or delays of multiple major cryptocurrency events across the globe, likely having a significant impact on the subsequent turnout – and therefor industry influence – of these events.

Coronavirus death toll grows as major crypto events begin announcing delays

Earlier today, the Chinese government reported that the death toll of the fast-spreading Coronavirus has reached 563, with confirmed cases of those infected surging to over 28,000.

The exponential spread of highly contagious viruses such as this one makes it very hard to prevent outbreaks, making it imperative that individuals engage in heightened precautions in order to avoid catching and spreading the virus.

As such, major cryptocurrency events in Asia are now being postponed, including Hong Kong Blockchain Week 2020, Token2049, and Binance Blockchain Week Vietnam, which are all incredibly popular events with a plethora of industry leaders that were previously slated to give presentations and participate in panel discussions.

Erhan Korhaliller, the founder of Istanbul Blockchain Week, spoke to CryptoSlate about the series of event cancellations in Asia, saying:

“The health & safety of delegates at any conference has to be of paramount importance, so I can understand the tough choice that the conferences in Asia have had to make.”

Importantly, for those who were planning to attend the now postponed Asia events, there are other alternatives, including Istanbul Blockchain Week.

Korhaliller further noted that because there have not been any confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Turkey as of yet, the international community is welcome to attend Istanbul Blockchain Week this April.

“As of today, there is no known cases of the Coronavirus in Turkey, and we welcome the international blockchain community to join us at Istanbul Blockchain Week this April.”

The cancellations and postponements of these events is an unfortunate result of the Coronavirus’s spread, although it is being done in the best interests of all participants.
