The Iranian government has given 30 crypto mining farms licensees to continue operations despite the power shortage currently witnessed in the country.

According to the report, four of the licenses were granted to miners at the province of Alborz while six mining farms in the Semnan province received licenses as well.  Other provinces that received four licenses include Zanjan, East Azarbaijan, and Mazandaran.

However, Iran’s center of political power Tehran province received only one license. The move is coming despite the country’s resolve to limit mining operations as the country was hit by a massive shortage of power supply.

More support to miners despite power shortage

Last month, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani announced that all mining operations will be suspended in the country until September when the weather will improve to supply more power. The country is currently experiencing an extremely hot summer, which has impacted its power supply.

However, the approval given to the miners is coming only a week after the Iranian regulatory authorities seized 7,000 crypto mining computers in Tehran.

The clampdown also came at a time China is strictly regulating the mining of crypto assets as the government banned all cryptocurrency mining activities.

The exodus of Chinese miners to other regions

Chinese authorities have blamed Bitcoin (BTC/USD) and crypto mining as a major threat to the stability of the nation’s financial system. But as Iran is more open to cryptocurrencies, it could see a mass exodus of miners from the world’s most populous country to Iran.

Other regions like the United States have also opened up to welcome Bitcoin miners as the cryptocurrency conference hopes to tackle the environmental issue of Bitcoin mining.

Miami’s Mayor, Francis Suarez, recently noted that the city is setting up a project that will reduce the cost of electricity to encourage more miners into the city.

Miami is also spearheading projects that will lead to Bitcoin mining using more renewable energy.
