College Students Enjoying More Opportunities Thanks To Increased Use Of Their Mobile Gadgets

Have you ever asked yourself how the gadgets surrounding you impact your life? How many gadgets do you use on any given week? Well, for college students, it is all about identity, and how to simplify their lives. It is the primary reason why they are considered some of the best identity consumers in the world.

It is normal for them to rely on the use of a single document when moving around campus. For instance, they can use a single ID to get to an exam room, access their dorm, or even gain access to the cafeteria. They will also use the same ID to gain access to an event being held on the campus.

Next Generation ID

Considering how campus students use their ID’s, IBM has gone ahead and partnered with Lenel and Marist Colleges to pilot a program being referred to as Blue Door. This is a new feature that has recently been incorporated into the existing student ID being used by Marist College. It is a card that makes it possible for the campus students to gain entry into restricted areas without having to use a key.

Marist and IBM are using this feature to prove that it is possible for campus students to live without having to rely on keys; all they need to do is use their mobile phones to access the areas they need to go to. The existing infrastructure is currently being powered by Lenel, and IBM is looking to build on it to come up with a full access platform that is powered by the mobile network.

It is assumed that the new identity being promoted by IBM has more benefits compared to the system in use at the moment. With the new framework, students have the option to share very few details, which are known as identity traits or PII (personally identifiable information) compared to the plastic card system which required them to share all their details.

By being able to control the information that is shared to the system, IBM is able to incorporate the Blue Door Trait feature to student mobile phones providing them with access to various entrances at the touch of a button. This is a trait that has also been added to their current ID cards making it easier for the campus to control the kind of access that the students get.

According to IBM, the new system involves more than transferring physical information to a digital system as the service ensures that the users get access to wherever they are headed to regardless of whether there is cell service and Wi-Fi or not.

Tried And Proven

The application has undergone intensive testing by Marist students. IBM had requested them to install the application on their phones after having gotten their ID cards from the campus. Once installed, a student could easily access a prohibited lab using their official student ID as well as clicking on the Blue Trait app. Once tapped, the application would then send a signal to a reader on the other end.
