IBM Blockchain Highlights Kansas Distributed Ledger Technology Education Initiatives

As Blockchain slowly finds its way to the mainstream, education about the technology is also gaining increasing demand.

The blockchain education currently is comparable to internet education in 1996. The capabilities of both the technologies are limitless and hold the power to transform industries like finance, supply chain, insurance, and energy. Every person who gets aware of the technology can see that it can transform the way things work around their industry. So it is obvious that there will be swarms of young individuals attracted to it.

Blockchain Institute at the University of Kansas

The Blockchain Institute at the University of Kansas is one of the pioneers of blockchain education in the country. It is an interdisciplinary organization established under the Brandmeyer Center for Applied Economics to promote the implications and applications of blockchain technology across the professional fields of engineering, business development, and policy making.

Jack Schraad, their Vice President is impressed by the interest of young people in their project. He says:

“Blockchain groups at the university level are spearheaded by ambitious men and women in their early 20’s. For me, this experience has felt similar to a start-up. Meeting with my small group of enthusiasts, in an empty conference room or cluttered college apartment to discuss our big plans. Initially, we decided to structure our roles by industry but soon realized how many different hats we each would wear.”

He is also surprised by the speed at which the ecosystem is progressing. Jack also thinks that diving right into working is better than theoretical knowledge. He adds:

“In six months, the professional experience I’ve gained exceeds three years of taking classes. I feel fortunate with timing. As I mature, so will the technology. Luckily, I’ve found myself ahead of the traditional white-collar track. I’m confident in my research and proven ability to provide transformative suggestions to a senior manager with a static agenda.”

Schraad is optimistic about the future of his venture.

“Starting an initiative to equip the future workforce is a more frictionless process than one might imagine. The experience that comes along is invaluable.”
