Institutional investment in the cryptocurrency sector has been limited. Most investors with deep pockets are on the fence regarding digital assets. They see the potential but are equally worried about the regulatory status of these currencies.  Now companies like Huobi are taking steps to encourage institutional investors.

With this new institutional investment channel by Huobi, they plan to provide “safe, compliant and rapid deposit-withdrawal of high-value assets.”

The service is currently in its first phase and will only allow 100 institutional clients and the first 10 deposit-withdrawal deals it receives.

The channel will allow trading on multiple positions and strategies and support up to 1,000 subaccounts for users. Withdrawal and loan limits will be customized for each client, who will also get on-call services and support from a dedicated service manager.

Big data analytics by Huobi Research will be provided, along with an investment strategy report on secondary markets by Huobi Quant Academy. The company also plans to invite blockchain and cryptocurrency influencers for regular meetups and talks. It also talks about participating in high-quality investment projects for some users.

Huobi has previously launched a Bitcoin ETF product, the first in the world. While the ETF proposals and large-scale investment in cryptocurrencies are uncommon, it could be a lucrative opportunity in crypto-friendly countries. Singapore and Hong Kong could become the world’s gateway to enterprise-level investments.

Lack of institutional investment is not an indicator of lack of interest. It could be more of a policy issue. Bitcoin futures are already available in the US, and if the US Securities and Exchange Commission approves ETFs, then the US could step ahead in crypto adoption. Meanwhile, Huobi can expect a good inflow of funds to its institutional channel.
