iCloud Hacker Demands Ransom in Bitcoin

A new Apple iCloud hacker demanded almost $175,000 in ransom to be paid in Bitcoin. The hacker filmed himself accessing Apple iCloud accounts and asking for a ransom to be paid in BTC. The IT analyst has been charged with blackmail and unauthorized acts related to computer access.

Kerem Albayrak was granted unconditional bail at Westminster Magistrates’ court. He is now waiting until his case is heard at Southwark Crown Court in November.

Albayrak filmed himself entering iCloud accounts and asking Apple to pay a ransom of $175,000 in Bitcoin. He warned the company that he would disclose details form almost 319 million users’ accounts when he had access to their accounts.

Lorna Vincent, the prosecution’s legal representative, said that Albayrak is accused of demanding Bitcoin for the information he had about iCloud accounts.

On the matter, Vincent commented:

“Mr Karem Albayrak is accused of sending emails to Apple making financial demands for downloading database iCloud accounts and factory resetting those iCloud accounts. He entered into the accounts of the alleged victims and posted a video his hack onto YouTube.”

As cryptocurrencies expanded, criminals also have increased their presence in the market. This is not the first time that an individual asks for a ransom to important companies. A hacker threatened WannaCry since it had access to hundreds of thousands of computers around the world. However, the hacker was arrested some time ago.

There are different cases in many different countries were kidnappers request a ransom to be paid in cryptocurrencies. Two of these cases are registered in South Africa and Ukraine. In South Africa, a kid was kidnapped earlier this year and the kidnappers were asking 15 Bitcoin to release him.
