NBA Champion Stephen Curry has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through Bored Ape Yacht Club.

On Saturday, Justin Taylor, Head of Consumer Product Marketing at Twitter, whose Twitter profile is also a Bored Ape, welcomed Stephen to the fam, adding, “now he’s posting selfies in the BoredApeYC discord!”

Not only has the two-time MVP changed his Twitter profile picture (pfp) to the Bored Ape that he bought, but he also added “BAYC” to his link bio.

The player bought the NFT for 55 ETH, worth $180,000. This purchase was also made through cryptocurrency exchange FTX, as shared by Jonathan Cheesman, FTX’s head of over-the-counter and institutional sales.

There are a total of only 10,000 apes, featuring a range of attributes in terms of outfits, hairdos, and expressions.

In particular, Curry’s Bored Ape has a yellow background, zombie eyes, bored mouth, blue fur, and is wearing a tweed suit, the latter being the rarest trait among all the features his NFT has with only 1% of the Bored Ape collection having this trait.

Bored Ape Yachts are one of the most popular NFTs that ranks among the top 5 all-time NFT collections managing $318.6 million in volume and 21,149 in sales, according to Dapp Radar.

In the past week, Bore Ape Yacht Club saw 914 traders handling more than $105 million in volume and 769 sales. The project also donates a part of its revenue to charities, with the latest $850,000 in cryptocurrency made to Orangutan Outreach.

The floor price of Bored Apes, the cheapest available for sale, is also on a rise as it gains traction, currently at 25 ETH.

This week payment giant Visa also jumped the NFT scene as it bought a CryptoPunk for $150k with Visa's head of crypto saying, NFTs mark “the beginnings of a new chapter for digital commerce.”

This sale was facilitated by Gmoney, who runs Delphi Digital’s INFNFT fund, according to whom Visa’s entry is “great for space” as it “validates that NFTs are here to stay. They’re not the only ones that will be doing things like this.”

Social media giant Facebook is also all-set to enter the NFT space, as we reported, with executive David Marcus saying,

“We’re definitely looking at the number of ways to get involved in the space because we think we’re in a really good position to do so.”
