Ethereum, Coinbase, Telegram & Robinhood Innovators See Fortune’s 40 Under 40 List

2018-7-21 11:30

The new Fortune’s “40 Under 40” list has just been released and it has the new annual rankings of the most powerful young people in the planet. Among these people, there is a total of five millionaires which made their fortunes with cryptocurrencies. They are ranked for their money, power and influence.

The first incarnation of the list runs from 1999 to 2003 and it was based only on wealth. At the time, a lot of people who have been in the booming dot-com industry were selected. Especially after the post-2008 financial crisis crash, though, the list has reinvented itself and it started to take more into account the achievements of the people and their influences on the world.

Ethereum Creator On The Spotlight

On the spotlight, it is obvious that we would find Vitalik Buterin, 24, the creator of the Ethereum network. This is his third year on the list and he was ranked in the 22th place. Described as a “skinny visionary”, his network became the second largest blockchain network in the world, only smaller than the giant Bitcoin.

Last year Buterin ranked 10th and 31st in 2016. The list also calls attention to the fact that Ethereum was not considered a security by the SEC, which enabled the young man to retain a lot of the value of the ETH tokens.

Other Crypto Celebrities

Other people to make the list include Brian Armstrong, Pavel Durov, Vlad Tenev and Baiji Bhatt. All of them are related to the crypto industry in some way and have been awarded by the 40 Under 40 list.

Brian Armstrong, 34, appears as the CEO of the largest crypto exchange and wallet in the United States, Coinbase. This is the second time that he makes the list and he has ranked 20th this time. Last year, he was 10th after Coinbase was valued at more than a billion USD and his company was called to be the first “unicorn” of the blockchain industry in America.

Pavel Durov, 33, is a Russian developer which ranked 25th. On his first appearance in the 40 Under 40 list, he appeared after creating the popular social network Vkontakte, which is very popular in Russia and Telegram, very popular around the whole world. Durov was able to secure $850 million for ICO for Telegram’s native token and is very rich and influential.

Finally, the duo Vlad Tenev, 31, and Baiji Bhatt, 33, stand in the 24th place together. The two are co-founders and co-CEOs of Robinhood, which is an US-based crypto exchange that offers transactions with the option of paying zero fees. The project was valued at $5.6 billion USD, becoming the second most valuable fintech startup in the United States quickly.

Last year, only two people made the list, Brian Armstrong and Vitalik Buterin, so this is a proof that the crypto market is making young people rich and powerful all around the world.
