Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced in a blog post on Tuesday, Oct. 2, that the Charles Schwab Corporation board member Chris Dodds will be joining the crypto exchange. Dodds will become a member of the Coinbase board of directors. He is the second person associated with Charles Schwab to join the crypto exchange this month. Jonathan Kellner, who previously held senior trading and tech positions in Charles Schwab, joined Coinbase Institutional Coverage Group as managing director this month.
What Does Coinbase Say?In the announcement, Armstrong praised Dodd’s previous works and wrote:
“Chris brings world-class leadership skills, deep knowledge of the financial services industry, and significant financial and accounting experience. His extensive expertise will be an asset to the Coinbase leadership team as we focus on scaling our business.”
Dodds first started working with Schwab in 1986. During his stay at the company, he worked in treasury and went on to financial planning and corporate development to analysis. He quickly went up the ladder, serving as the vice president of Corporate Finance and Mergers and Acquisitions between 1989 and 1993, followed by treasurer from 1993 to 1997.
He was the company’s corporate controller too and worked as the chief financial officer from 1999 to 2007. He then became the director of Schwab Bank in 2007 before becoming a director of The Charles Schwab Corporation in 2014. He is chairman of the Risk Committee at the organization at present.
Equity Business ExperienceIn 2008, Dodds joined private equity firm The Carlyle Group as well, where he worked as a senior advisor in financial services. Working there for 10 years, he then moved to The Cynosure Group, working in the capacity of a senior advisor to the private equity business.
Armstrong said that Dodds’ joining Coinbase will help the company expand its financial service capabilities as they head into the next chapter for the platform, as well as the crypto industry.
Another former Schwab executive, Jonathan Kellner, joined as the managing director of Coinbase Institutional Coverage Group recently. The exchange’s high-profile talent acquisition is continuing at a rapid pace while the crypto market awaits a last quarter revival like the previous year.
