The Dutch branch of Red Cross is now accepting cryptocurrencies to raise money in the fight against COVID-19.
Red Cross is trying to boost donations and is now accepting cryptocurrencies. On the Dutch website for Red Cross, one can now donate cryptocurrencies to aid in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

The prominent Bitcoin (BTC) logo is shown, but any major cryptocurrencies can be donated. They will be processed through BitPay, which is working with Red Cross.

According to reports, Red Cross has been accepting Bitcoin donations for some time now but recently opened up such options for fighting the novel coronavirus.
Earlier today, it was announced that a new campaign by the Italian Red Cross and the Colli Albani Committee will also be raising funds in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The new campaign was announced on March 12 and expects to raise some €10,000.
Helping Those in NeedWhen it comes to donations, many charities and causes have been open to accepting cryptocurrencies. It’s a way for the blockchain community to show its true colors in helping those in need.
For example, UNICEF is currently working on a prototype that would allow for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) donations. These donations will be kept in cryptocurrencies and will not be converted into fiat. The international agency is effectively ‘going long’ on cryptocurrencies, as BeInCrypto reported in October of last year.
During the Hong Kong protests, cryptocurrency donations also played a role in aiding the protesters. The Hong Kong Free Press added Bitcoin as an accepted donation option last August. Due to a dispute with BitPay, however, it switched to a different payment processor, BTCPay, last October.
Let’s not forget that cryptocurrency donations also spiked after Julian Assange’s arrest in April 2019. WikiLeaks is a known supporter of the cryptocurrency space, seeing it as a way to maintain financial privacy. The trend toward accepting cryptocurrency donations has even been considered for U.S. elections. However, that idea has since stalled.
