Elixxir, the cypherpunk and full-stack blockchain that is led by David Chaim outlined the beginning of its BetaNode selection process. This will start as soon as January 21s and applications will be open since that day.

The Elixxir platform leverages fundamental breakthroughs in decentralized technology and enables better performance and privacy on a global consumer scale. As per the statement released by the platform the blockchain fulfills all the requirements needed to expand its adoption around the world. This includes speed, privacy, security, and scalability.

The selection process has six different steps that include a questionnaire, an application, an initial screening, the publication of applications, an initial selection, and public review and finally the node selection.

The platform is expected to select hundreds of other third-party nodes and support the platform’s first commercial implementation. The node selection is just the beginning of the governance process for Elixxir.

David Chaum commented about this:

“To date, blockchain technology has not targeted the requirements for consumer adoption. It doesn’t have the level of privacy that consumers require, it doesn’t have the kind of transaction speed needed, and it can’t be built into the kind of smartphone apps consumers expect. With Elizzir we’ve built a platform that meets all of these requirements.”

According to the press release, the price of running and setting up a BetaNode is approximately $1,600. The nodes would require a single performant consumer GPU and an 8-16 core modern CPU. Additionally, it would be necessary a modern CPU with 8 to 64 GiB of Ram and 50 GiB to 2 TiB of disk space. A 500 megabit network connection is recommended.

The BetaNet launch is going to support Elixxir’s proof-of-concept messaging decentralized application that will be allowing users to send and receive messages in a secure and fast way. In the future, there will be a peer-to-peer payment network rolled out. However, this payment network will be developed and launched as soon as the platform scales.

Elixxir's goal is to enable more people to communicate with each other and also transact money without intermediaries and knowing that users are protected.
