During the current political debates about cryptos, a representative from Dash gave a speech at the Houses of Parliament in the United Kingdom. This representant was Mark Mason, from Dash International Outreach, an organization funded by Dash. On the speech, he talked about the blockchain technology and how it relates to Dash and its features.

Mason explained that Dash is an open source P2P digital currency that is very focused on helping the payment industry with the new blockchain technology and that it offers a new form of money that can be inexpensive to use and faster than fiat currency.

According to the PR agent of the company, the main characteristic of Dash, which was founded in 2014 and has grown a lot over the years, is that you can send money to anyone in the world by only paying some cents unlike Bitcoin, which charges you a lot of money per transaction.

While many forms of cryptos do not have a middleman, the company stated that Dash is one of the cheapest ways to make transactions that are really fast by today’s standards, being even more efficient than credit and debit cards.

Dash was originally created by Evan Duffield in 2014. Originally, it used Bitcoin’s source code to model its own token and it was originally called Xcoin. Later, it changed to Darkcoin, a reference to its features as a privacy coin and it finally decided for Dash, short for “Digital Cash”.

The project is constantly in development and its creators consider it to be the only major self-funded and self-governed organization in the crypto market (which is not exactly 100% true, as there are other companies that follow similar patterns).

Now Dash has many ways that you can use it. According to Mason, these ways range from ATMs, apps and sites that offer payment options with Dash. There is also PayCent, which offers a debit card that allows the user to spend Dash anywhere in the world where Mastercard or Visa is accepted.

According to Mason, there are over 400 Dash ATM machines around the world, 400 post offices in Austria using Dash and you can buy it in 9,000 kiosks in Ukraine and 10,000 Spanish retailers.

Another point that Mason touched on the meeting was the cannabis industry and its relationship with Dash. He stated that over 4,000 legal cannabis dispensaries, suppliers and distributors in the United States are already using Dash.

This exclusive agreement with the dealers will be important because, according to Mason, “Dash essentially will be the PayPal of legal cannabis industry”.

Other use cases cited that the Dash executive at the meeting were about unbanked people using Dash. He told that a lot of unbanked people in America are already using Dash at the moment and making their digital payments 100% with the tokens.

Venezuela is another great use case. The inflation is now above 40,000% and, in the last month, over 500 merchants started to use Dash, a number that increases because the crypto can be a solution for the inflation and cross-border payments. At the moment, Dash is worth $243.90 USD a piece and has a market cap of around 2 billion USD. Its price has risen 4.3% since last week.
