Craig Wright Calls Blockchain Tech a “Toddler”, Threatens to Post Further Satoshi Proof Online

Dr. Craig S. Wright blew up crypto Twitter earlier today when he said “screw you toddler” to blockchain tech Peter Todd (@PeterKTodd), then threatened to go “full billionaire mode”.

This is it.

Screw you Toddler.

I am going to undelete my writings. You want competition… screw you. I am going full billionaire mode.

You want this. You get it.

You asked for this. You will not like what is coming!

You think I cannot choose what I prove, to whom…. watch

The argument between Craig and Todd began when Todd started discounting the work of Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous investor of bitcoin.

Todd was quote-tweeting Tim Ruffing (@real_or_random), who said, “I’m not convinced that Satoshi’s opinion from 2009 is of any use.”

Statements like this typically enrage hardcore bitcoin supporters, who believe Satoshi’s word is law and his vision was impeccable. Peter Todd, however, echoed the opinion. He said, “While Satoshi had a lot of brilliant ideas, they also had many ideas that haven’t worked out.”

“This is cryptography engineering, not pseudo-religion,” Todd went onto explain.

It was this tweet that enraged Craig Wright. Wright, who’s a big fan of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as the true version of bitcoin, quoted the tweet and said, “Screw you toddler.”

In a follow-up tweet, Craig took things a step further, saying, “This is it. Screw you toddler. I am going to undelete my writings. You want competition… screw you. I am going full billionaire mode.”

Craig then took a threatening tone, saying, “You want this. You get it. You asked for this. You will not like what is coming! You think I cannot choose what I prove, to whom… watch.”

Many have taken Craig’s statements to mean that he’s going to provide further proof that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

The whole controversy stems after nChain, the main development team behind Bitcoin Cash (BCH), receiving a second patent for its blockchain technology. Some have criticized nChain for patenting various BCH technologies and targeting the “permissionless” nature of blockchain technology.

Craig, an Australian computer scientist and businessman, famously claimed to be Satoshi back in 2016. The BBC, The Economist, Gavin Andresen, and Jon Matonis all claim Craig has signed messages with private keys known to have been controlled by Satoshi Nakamoto in a demonstration. However, there’s some controversy over the nature of that demonstration. The bitcoin community criticized Craig’s claim, and a few days after the secret demonstration, the 47-year old retracted the claim.

There’s no doubt Craig was there in the early days of bitcoin. He was one of the first people to mine bitcoin. Although Craig has publicly identified himself as a member of the original bitcoin development team and the figure behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, many in the bitcoin community deride his claim, calling him “Fake Satoshi”.

Craig and Vitalik Buterin have butted heads numerous times, with Vitalik Buterin publicly stating he doesn’t believe Craig is Satoshi.

In follow-up tweets, Craig seemed to confirm that he wants to provide further proof that he is Satoshi Nakamoto:

“I am about done hiding,” he said in response to one tweet.

Someone else responded to Craig’s tweet saying, “Prove it to me please.” Craig simply responded to that tweet saying, “Watch”.

Meanwhile, Craig is embroiled in a lawsuit from the estate of his dead business partner, Dave Kleiman. That lawsuit might ultimately reveal the true identity of Satoshi, as the lawsuit involves some of the bitcoins the pair mined all the way back in 2009. If certain claims in the lawsuit are found to be true, then it’s entirely possible Craig could reveal himself as Satoshi before the lawsuit is over.

In any case, this is yet more Twitter drama in the crypto community. Craig hasn’t posted much since issuing the “Screw you toddler” tweet five hours ago. We’ll see what kind of proof Craig can provide this time.
