Coinsquare Announces New Leadership Team; Files Applications to Operate a Regulated Digital Asset Marketplace in Canada

 Coinsquare, Canada’s leading digital asset trading platform, has announced the appointment of Nicholas Thadaney and Wendy Rudd to its board of directors. 

The appointments follow the confirmation of Stacey Hoisak as Coinsquare’s new Chief Executive Officer, and the appointments of Lawrence Truong as Chief Compliance Officer, and Eric Richmond as Chief Operating Officer. 

The newly appointed directors and executive team bring tremendous experience in Canadian securities regulation, investment dealer operations and regulated marketplaces to Coinsquare. 

Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. (CCML) has also submitted a dealer membership application to the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and an application to the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) to operate Canada’s first regulated marketplace for digital assets. The proposed marketplace will provide automated trading systems bringing together institutional and retail orders from buyers and sellers of digital assets deemed securities under the Ontario Securities Act.

Nicholas Thadaney is a finance, technology, and capital markets senior executive with more than 25 years of experience and is currently CEO of Partners Capital Corp. He was recently President of the Toronto Stock Exchange and CEO of Global Equity Capital Markets, TMX Group, and previously as CEO of ITG Canada Corp. Nick is a very experienced board member having served on over 20 boards including IIROC, CanDeal, CDS Inc., Bermuda Stock Exchange, NEO Exchange, Toronto Finance International, etc.

About Wendy Rudd

Wendy spent over seven years as a Senior Vice President at IIROC, where she was instrumental in modernizing the regulation of Canadian equity and debt markets, as well as the conduct and prudential regulation of investment dealers. Previously she was CEO of TriAct Canada Marketplace. Wendy is currently a member of the Board of the Canadian Regulatory Technology Association and Chair of the TMX IP Governance Committee.

About Stacey Hoisak

Stacey, CEO of Coinsquare, has been a key member of the Coinsquare leadership and executive team, first as General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, and more recently as CEO. Stacey is a seasoned leader with 20 years of experience in corporate and securities law, capital markets, and corporate governance from both private practice and in-house positions including Stikeman Elliott LLP, Klick Health, Birch Hill Equity Partners and Alpha Exchange/TMX Group.

About Lawrence Truong

Lawrence brings more than 20 years of capital markets experience to his new role as Chief Compliance Officer. During the last 10 years, he has built trade surveillance programs with the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) Enforcement team and helped to oversee marketplace operations with the ASC Markets Oversight team. He has built compliance programs from the ground up for several multi-billion dollar capital markets and commodity trading businesses.

About Eric Richmond

Eric has been with Coinsquare since early 2018, first as the head of legal, and more recently as COO. Eric has extensive experience working with and advising startup and blockchain companies and has in-depth knowledge of the principles, applications and current developments relating to blockchain technologies. Prior to Coinsquare, Eric was a lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, where he advised clients on a variety of corporate and capital markets transactions, as well as corporate governance and securities regulatory matters.

$136 Million in Missing Crypto From QuadrigaCX Could be Gone Forever: WSJ
