Earlier this week, the Coda Protocol team introduced the Coda Testnet state explorer. Amazingly, the blockchain network can comfortably run full nodes on the web browser installed on standard home computers. This is made possible by the compressing functionality of the zk-SNARK proof. This development is a significant milestone in the efforts to find a reliable scaling mechanism for blockchain networks without having to compromise in decentralization.

As of now, users require vast amounts of disk space to download the blockchain ledgers of popular networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Average users find it hard to afford such resources, leaving the network under the control of a few nodes. As mentioned above, Coda relies on the zk-SNARK cryptographic compression mechanism that eliminates the necessity of interactions between provers and verifiers.

According to the Coda development team, the integration of zk-SNARK proofs results in a lightweight blockchain that mitigates the need for the download of the voluminous distributed ledgers. Precisely, the entire Coda blockchain is compressed into 1 kilobyte of zk-SNARK proof that acts as a cryptographic certificate of the network's integrity. The certificate, called the ‘succinct blockchain' is the Coda alternative to the space-demanding, ever-growing blockchains sued to verify transactions of other virtual currencies.

In addition to the succinct blockchain, Coda also uses Merkle-paths, meaning that the protocol needs smaller disk space than conventional blockchain to provide full proof of the status of a user’s account. Moreover, it also implies that the network does not require additional resources as time goes on. As a result, the Coda network is considerably fast than most of its contemporaries.

Lately, the crypto community has demonstrated an increased interest in having access to full nodes on a blockchain. In July, Ryan Goehausen, the VP of Engineering at Constellation Labs who has developed a solution that enables accessibility of full nodes on mobile devices and web browsers, said that crypto community is against the trading off of decentralization to achieve blockchain scalability. Ryan added that the masses have to join various blockchain networks to increase the adoption of digital currencies.

As an incentive to encourage individuals to join their networks, the Coda protocol, Constellation Labs and other like-minded institutions are lowering the entry barriers. Proponents of blockchain technology are hopeful that other projects will follow in this footsteps to increase the utilization of cryptocurrencies globally.
