China Money Network reports that Chinese search engine giant Baidu is set to unveil its new blockchain layout and Totem Rewards for its blockchain-based photo service, Baidu Totem. The company recently announced that the two new features would be unveiled on July 18. The company uses blockchain and artificial intelligence technology for securing online rights of images. The service was launched in April this year.

Totem Rewards are an incentive in the Baidu Totem ecosystem that allots equity to the participants. The rewards will only be open for limited functions like user uploads in the beginning. The company has not shared specific scenarios of receiving these rewards. But they can reportedly be used for resource exchange in the future.

The new feature will be officially launched in two weeks by Wu Hailong, vice president of Baidu’s search division; Tan Waiting, Baidu’s search chief architect, and director of the blockchain laboratory; and Zhang Xinyong, director of Baidu search product operations.

The company’s blockchain lab is bringing the benefits of distributed ledgers to its product offerings, and Totem is the first of such products. The chief architect at Baidu and director of the blockchain lab, Tan Dai, said that the blockchain revolution has arrived, which will use big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies to amplify its value.

The platform was launched by the Chinese search company in April and works as an image rights management system based on blockchain technology. The platform timestamps the submission of original images from a user and accredits it with a real-name identity. The data related to the images are then stored in a blockchain network.

It also uses artificial intelligence to find duplicate images on the web and discover copyright infringements. Totem will then “initiate online rights lawyers” to resolve the issue.

The platform follows the footsteps of KODAKOne, a similar blockchain-based image management system of the American company Kodak.
