Arizona State University and Truepic are set to enter into a partnership that would help in providing counter measures to misinformation online. This would be done by capturing and making available all authentic content in view of the 2018 mid-term congressional elections.

The university’s Weaponized Narrative Initiative Co-Director, Brad Allenby, spoke on the plans so far and expressed that it is incredible to watch the development and deployment of technologies that weaponize information streams to the extent that citizens, can no longer tell what is real, and what has been manufactured to mislead them. Therefore, in an effort to raise awareness and stem this trend, ASU is partnering with Truepic to try to counter these attacks with authenticated images that defend rationality and transparency in yet another critical way.

The plan is to involve the university’s community to give as many reports as possible concerning political events as they happen countrywide. Truepic will serve as the platform where all authenticated images and videos can be shared by as many individuals who get to witness precise events, thereby leaving no room for misinformation and fake news.

The CEO, Truepic, Jeff McGregor spoke on this partnership, confirming the belief that the ultimate solution to the crisis of disinformation will not come from one sector, but, instead, will be a whole-of-society approach, including collaboration between technologists and academia. Truepic looks forward to their partnership with Arizona State University as they aim to continue innovating and developing technology to return trust in images around the world.

The Weaponized Narrative Initiative and Truepic are participants of the U.S. Department of State's Global Engagement Center (GEC) Tech Demo series, which is aimed at improving U.S. government's efforts to reduce misinformation of the public by rogue groups or international threats.
