Renowned singer Akon, who’s songs include hits like, Lonely, Right Now and Sorry, Blame It On Me, is launching a new kind of cryptocurrency called ‘Akoin’ and it will be available for sale in two weeks in the hope that it will bring more help his Lighting Africa Project, which aims to bring solar power to the whole of Africa.
During a panel conference, Akon explained Akoin:
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the saviour for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system and also allows the people to utilise it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down. ”
The site for the new cryptocoin states that an “Akon Crypto City” is being developed on 2,000 acres of land in which it was given to the famous singer by the president of Senegal.
