You’ll have to cut Iraq some slack for being late to the tech startup party. Since at least the early 2000s, the country was the embodiment of civil war, violence, and protracted armed conflicts.

But it all changed this April, when Iraq hosted its first ever nationwide hackathon. The aim was to bring together aspiring entrepreneurs, and solve some of the pressing issues faced by the country through innovation.
