This is the question being asked across the cryptocurrency communities after the latest move to introduce the famous game; Rock, paper and scissors. 0xfair has launched on Ethereum blockchain, offering a transparent and fair way to play our favourite childhood game. Rock paper scissors (also known as scissors-paper-rock or other variants) is a hand game usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand. The rules are simple, rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper and paper beats rock. A simultaneous, zero-sum game, it has only two possible outcomes: a draw, or a win for one player and a loss for the other.

This however, causes a lot of issues when played due to cheating and a lack of trust between the players. The possibility of one player forming a shape after the other player forms, weakens the credibility of the game. Imagine a scenario where you can play the game without your opponent seeing your move till when the shapes are released (at the same time). This is what a Reddit user, Ikirch, had in mind with his decentralized application (dApp) on Ethereum blockchain.

0xFair is a blockchain based, rock – paper – scissors game that requires a wallet, Ether (ETH) and a Metamask extension (dApp interface tool). The game requires a player to choose a gesture and place a bet to create a game. Once place, another player will choose their gesture and then the result will be revealed to both users instantaneously. The game is basically trustless between the players. However, it no longer seems to be a kid’s play as a minimum of 0.05 ETH is required to play. Gambling or betting would be the best way to describe it.

Once you create the game, share the game link to friends, or wait for players to join. The player who wants to join needs to choose his gesture and pay the same bet. If no one joins the game at the end of the game, you can close the game and get back the ethers. The winner takes home the bet placed by both parties, if it’s a draw the bet is returned. The tip to play is set at 1% of the bet on both parties.

The addition of 0xfair to the blockchain world shows the length of impact the industry is having even towards areas we did not naturally think we needed the technology. Rock! Paper! Scissors!
