New Opera with Built-In Ethereum Crypto Wallet Gets Instant Positive Feedback

Opera is among the pioneers in the browsing space betting on blockchain technology. The browser maker is keen to reach new audiences interested to learn about cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin. They announced that Opera for Android has officially become a ‘blockchain browser.’

In July, the company rolled out their private beta version of Opera for Android crypto-wallet. The wallet can store Ethereum and simultaneously access Ethereum-based Dapps. The new development builds on their already existing built-in crypto wallet. The company wants to lay the groundwork for Web 3.0.

The Release

The Opera Android web browser “Web 3-ready” features a built-in digital asset. In this new mobile technology, users will not require to install apps on a phone. However, the apps are powered by decentralized networks while using cryptos for transactions. Thus, users can now buy and store Ethereum currency in the browser’s wallet. Furthermore, users can then access all their Dapps from inside the wallet.

The features are believed to revolutionize the mainstream use of cryptocurrencies in the foreseeable future. The project was also launched successfully within budget. It will enhance users’ confidence to transact in cryptos even after ETH’s decline from $1,400 in January to $88 currently.

Opera’s wallet will detect and show ERC20 compliant tokens, which some Dapps may use, for example, an in-game currency. Also, the browser maker will also show any crypto collectibles that users may have (ERC721). Here is what Krystian Kolondra, EVP Browsers at Opera said at the launch:

“I would like to invite all tech enthusiasts who may have heard of blockchain but haven’t yet experienced it to simply give our new browser and Web 3.0 a try”

All other decentralized Ethereum-based apps will also get extensive support on the app accessible through the new wallet. Charles Hamel, the product manager at Opera Crypto, stated:

“Until now using cryptocurrencies online and accessing Web 3 required special apps or extensions, making it difficult for people to even try it out. Our new browser removes that friction.”

Hamel confirmed that the new version of the app majorly resembled the beta. However, its meticulous design aims to attract the attention of a ‘wider audience base.’

The new Opera wallet maintains a high-security level. It gives users total control of their collectible keys and funds as they are all stored on their smartphone. Also, the wallet uses Android’s secure system lock that makes blockchain transactions easier. Therefore, users do not need any extra passwords or PIN codes.

Feedback

This application has already started getting positive feedback. Here is what the vice president of Opera, Krystian Kolondra, had to say about that:

“Our hope is that this step will speed up the transition of cryptos from speculation and investment to actual payments and transactions in our users’ daily lives.”

Since the Android browser is available on the Google Play store, the company plans to develop new updates. They confirmed that similar updates will emerge on the full desktop browser for Mac, Windows, and Linux.
