Glassdoor Publishes List of Best Jobs in Tech Industry for 2020

The world’s largest job and recruiting website Glassdoor has published its annual list of the 50 best jobs in America for 2020. The top seven spots on Glassdoor’s list of best jobs are taken by tech jobs that appeared there 20 times.

The list begins with a front-end engineer outranking data scientist that was holding the top spot since 2016. Making the list of best jobs, Glassdoor considers the following factors: a very strong salary of over $100,000, over 13,000 open positions around the country, and strong job satisfaction. The median base salary of front-end engineers is $105,240, job satisfaction level is 3.9 out of 5, and there are 13,122 job openings.

According to Amanda Stansell, Senior Economic Research Analyst at Glassdoor, the position of front-end engineers strikes a great balance between the three factors that are important for job seekers.

Front-end engineers are responsible for implementing visual elements that users see and interact within a web application. They select, install and test the user interface elements of a website. The job requires a good background, both theoretical and practical.

Stansell said:

“Front-end engineers use different programming languages to build the user interface for a website. They are helping create more user-friendly website interfaces as companies expand their online presence both on desktop and mobile devices.”

Next on Glassdoor’s list of best jobs are java developer, data scientist, product manager, and DevOps engineer. Data engineers and software engineers close the top seven positions. Data scientist position that was the top in 2016 offers a median base salary of $107,801. With 6,542 job openings in the U.S., it satisfies specialists by 4/5. According to Stansell, it remains an excellent career to get into.

New Jobs in Glassdoor’s List

It is noteworthy that 20 jobs of Glassdoor’s list are tech jobs, up from 19 last year. One of the new positions on the list is an automation engineer. Automation engineers are responsible for the design of systems that allow them to perform tasks smarter and more effectively. Automation engineers design, program, test and simulate automated machines and processes in order to do a specific task. Ranked 46, the job provides an $85,456 median base salary.

Scrum master (ranks29th) and cloud engineer (ranks 33rd) are also new in Glassdoor’s list. Scrum master resolves impediment and has control over the scrum processes, while cloud engineer is responsible for everything associated with cloud computing. His duties include design, planning, management, maintenance, and support.

According to Glassdoor, the highest median base pay for tech jobs belongs to product managers (rank 4th). Their salary makes up as much as $117,713.

All the 50 jobs on the list have a median pay of over $50,000. Besides, all of them have at least 1,000 available positions across America.

Glassdoor’s Version of Best Tech Companies

Glassdoor also shared its view on the best tech companies. Glassdoor gauged the performance of various companies in 2019 and made the following conclusions. Giants like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple continue leading the tech industry, but some have changed their positions. For example, Facebook, fell by 16 spots to number 23, while Google dropped three spots to the 11th position. Microsoft has jumped by 13 spots and taken the 21st place.

The top tech company is HubSpot involved in providing marketing and service software. Glassdoor’s list also includes Ultimate Software, LinkedIn, Nvidia, Compass, and more.
