Cardano Founder Speaks On The Future Of Byron And Shelley Upgrades Of The Blockchain

Cardano’s Founder, Charles Hoskinson talks about the upcoming developments and upgrades on the blockchain including the Byron Reboot update. The new update is launching in preparation of the Shelley upgrade that will set Cardano to a more decentralized consensus system.

Over the past month and a half, the Cardano community has welcomed a number of developments following a successful Ouroboros hard fork on the blockchain. In a 24-minute update, Hoskinson speaks on the upcoming upgrades on the Cardano in what has become subsequent for the pubic as they wait for Cardano 2.0, or the Shelley update, that will increase the decentralization properties of the blockchain.

According to the CEO of IOHK, Hoskinson, the blockchain is still some upgrades away from its long-awaited launch of the Shelley blockchain. The next item on the roadmap is the Byron Reboot update that is expected to facilitate the smooth transition of the blockchain to Haskell programing language.

When will Byron Reboot launch?

On the question of when the Byron Reboot is expected to launch, Charles gave a rough estimate of two or so weeks if everything goes smoothly. He said,

“So we are finishing up the sprint for this month and the next sprint will be the polishing and finishing the sprint for the Byron reboot. So with any luck, mid-March is when we will expect to see that.”

Furthermore, Charles confirmed the development timeline for the Shelley release holds out in maybe March of April depending on the success of the Byron update. He said,

“We are very close to getting a band for the release of the Shelley mainnet. That band gives us a two-month time frame for the release of the Shelley mainnet. We will have greater clarity by the end of March as to a two to a four-week window when the Shelley launch will occur.”

Near term events and developments on Cardano

Charles further confirmed the Cardano team will hold several technical and developmental meetings in several African countries including Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The Cardano dev team is working with several Agri-Tech and Telco firms in the latter country to introduce blockchain-based solutions to the developing world.
